Thank you all for your participation in our class survey. We have completed two online surveys and a take home survey in the last month in order to make changes that will benefit you. Here are some of the results we would like to share with you.

Note: We have given the youth students a take-home survey so parents can get insights as well.

1. Kids/Youth Class Parent Satisfaction Survey RESULTS
average completion time: 4 minutes
average class attendance: 33%
85% of you think “aikido is a good place to grow stronger physically and mentally”
74% of you think “this is a good place to learn self-defense, self-discipline, self-confidence”
63% of you think “there is a sense of care, love, happiness in the community”
72% of you noticed “aikido affects your life or your child(ren)’s life outside of the dojo”
81% of you talk to your friends or family about aikido
67% of you would like to learn more about “Applications of Aikido in Everyday Life”; “Mind/Body Awareness and Mindfulness Training” & “Basic Self-Defense & Awareness Training”

75% of adult students would like to see more “Applications of Aikido in Everyday Life”
62% of adult students would like to see more “Mind/Body Awareness, Breathing and Meditation Training”
Some students suggested way for us to improve. Most similar suggestions are:
“I would like to have additional discussion as a class regarding aikido’s philosophy and how aikido influences our everyday lives.”
“[I] would like to get more spirituality in aikido and how we can apply this to our life outside of the dojo during verbal confrontation.”
“I love the philosophy of Aikido. If we could have maybe 10 minutes of Aikido a circle of spirituality sessions once a week or ever other week, I would have really enjoyed it.”
AND
“I would like to see more practical applications from some of these movements.”
AND
“Carve out more beginning exercises / skill building sessions for the white belts including language / meaning of Japanese words – many of us are seriously delinquent in our homework – I think it’s all in there – we want to make progress and live the help of the blackbelts – but I worry that we are slowing down their own training!!”
AS A RESULT OF THIS SURVEY, we have built more into our website under NEWSLETTER for articles by Payet Shihan and ADM members to show how aikido can benefit life outside of the dojo and connect us to each other spiritually. We have also included a Beginner’s Corner under Member’s Corner to help new students get a quick glimpse of new learning materials. Adult class has now included mediation to start class in the past several weeks. Last weekend, we have also started learning practical applications of various joint locks. Kevin sensei also started a 10min discussion on Tuesday class in order to meet the needed demand of putting Aikido philosophy to use.
