2015 Kagami Biraki Celebration

明けましておめでとうございます! Happy New Year!

It is that time again where Aikido of Del Mar is putting on the biggest event of the year. We are excited to officially kick start our training this year by a tradition of reflecting of the past and rededicating to the future — come and join us to celebrate Kagami Biraki (鏡開き) on Saturday, Jan 17th from 11am-1:30pm.

This celebration was an old samurai tradition dating back to the 15th century. As for Aikido of Del Mar, this is our 6th annual Kagami Biraki celebration. As of tradition, all three classes will meet together for this special event. All students from kids white belts to adult black belts will demonstrate an aspect of aikido he/she has been working on. Friends and family are invited to this special event to help support each student through their dedicated training and to celebrate their continuous growth.

After the demonstration all are invited to join us to break mochi and enjoy a potluck lunch together. This year, the adult and youth classes will provide the side dishes and main dishes, and the kids class will bring appetizers, drinks, and desserts.

HERE is a video from Kagami Biraki 2011 – we hope you enjoy it. And we are looking forward to seeing everyone on January 17th, 2015!
