This celebration called Kagami Biraki (鏡開き) is a Japanese traditional celebration which translates to "Opening the Mirror". Registration is now open for the November Utada Kancho Seminar - come and join the FUN! This 3-day seminar includes beach bokken training, explanation of all controls, focused weapons training, and the philosophical and mystical aspects of aikido. Don't forget to bring a notebook! Some of you have attended last year's session with an introduction to attack and counter-attacks using the bokken, jo, and tanto. Hello students and parents, We are hosting a demonstration which includes all three classes on Saturday, August 1st from 11:00 am - 12:30pm, followed by a traditional potluck lunch. This demonstration provides an excellent opportunity to demonstrate what each student is learning in class, as well as give many beginner students their first experience demonstrating what they know in front of an audience. Good Day Everyone! We have scheduled our upcoming kids test on Saturday, May 16th. Test preparation will begin this week. Private classes will be available week before the test. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. Some parents also asked about personal defense seminars to keep their children safe. At our second location in Encinitas, there is a self-defense seminar happening this Sunday for teens and adults. There will also be a free counter kidnapping class for children from 12 noon to 1pm. Our next test for aiki-youth and aikido adult class is currently scheduled for Saturday, April 18th, 2015. Test preparation is already underway in the aiki-youth class. We are also into the second weekend for brown belt training with three more sessions until test date. In order for students to better prepare for their techniques, we have complied links to the official yoshinkan videos corresponding to the test requirements from 10th kyu to 4th kyu. We will be doing a private screening for a modern day samurai movie at the Boys and Girls Club from 6:30-8:30pm. This event is open to all friends and families of Aikido Del Mar. Bring some drinks and snacks to share with your friends if you like. Note, due to the nature of samurai movies and some graphic contents in the beginning of the film, this movie could be rated PG-13 and parental discretion is advised. Good day everyone! We had a wonderful seminar weekend in Encinitas Aikido with Utada Kancho. Several students were able to take this opportunity to deepen their aikido understanding and solidify their basic movements. We are bringing back what we learned to kick start the youth class bokken training next week! Just a reminder for the upcoming test this weekend on December 20th for youth and adult students.
